Yoga is the journey “of the self, through the self, to the Self” - transforming from the ego self to the pure consciousness, i.e. the true Self.

About my teacher “self”

I am an RYT-500 Yoga Alliance–certified instructor with 16+ years of practice. I completed my 200-hour training at Barefoot Yoga in Oakland in 2019 and my 300-hour training with Mark Stephens in 2023. Along the way, I’ve hosted yoga retreats, and taught at Cricket Club of India, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, UC Berkeley, local studios, corporate gatherings, and with Outdoor Yoga Berkeley.

My classes are rooted in vinyasa flow and guided by mindfulness, body awareness, and compassionate self-inquiry. Each practice begins with the wisdom of the Yoga Sutra, sthira-sukham asanam - finding balance between steadiness and ease. Mindfulness is at the heart of my teaching.

I see asana not only as physical movement but as a doorway to reconnect with our inner stillness, intuition, and a felt sense of interconnectedness with the world around us. As a teacher, I aspire to nurture this unfolding journey in my students, offering yoga not just as movement, but as a mindful way of living with awareness, balance, and compassion.

About my whole “self”

I am someone who believes deeply in both reason and wisdom. By day, I am the Director of AI at an education and wellness technology company that supports students and children. By heart, I am a yoga practitioner and teacher. I spend much of my time researching and building meaningful technologies, and just as much time immersed in the study of yoga philosophy and physiology.

This coexistence, the analytical and the intuitive, shapes how I live and practice. For me, yoga is not about extremes; it is a path of balance, of non-duality, of meeting life with steadiness and compassion. My journey began in 2008 at an ashram near my home in Jaipur, India. What started as a way to stay fit soon revealed its holistic gifts, transforming my emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Over the years, mindfulness has become the guiding thread of my life and practice. Inspired by the teachings of Thích Nhất Hạnh, I return again and again to the simple presence of breath, body, and awareness, learning to meet each moment and experience with presence and compassion.

About the Self

While as a teacher I need to share about my “self,” I want to stay grounded in the belief that yoga is a journey beyond the ego. At its heart, yoga is not about me or you, but about the shared wholeness we all belong to, the one Self that connects us.

As the Yoga Sutra (I.3) says: Tadā draṣṭuḥ svarūpe 'vasthānam — “Then the Seer abides in its own true nature.”

And as (II.6) reminds us: Dṛg-darśana-śaktyor ekātmatā iva asmitā — “Egoism is the misidentification of the Seer with the instruments of seeing.”

Together, these teachings point us back to the deeper truth: that beyond our shifting identities, roles, and stories, there is only the timeless Self.
